Software Project Management: Opportunities and Challenges Abstract Despite the tremendous attention and funds invested by enterprises in this new technology, the likelihood of effective development of Information Systems (IS) is low. This poor pace of IS development has been shown to be due to a mix of inadequate and inappropriate project management problems. The results of the fieldwork and interviews performed on the obstacles and problems of system development projects are presented in this article. Personal interviews and observational techniques were used in the research. The results showed that key obstacles and problems encountered by companies throughout system development were funding, infrastructures (hardware and software), personnel, management commitment, monitoring, and inspection.
