How Can One Manage Different Types of People in a Single Team?

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the connection between personality and team conflict. In order to gather data for this research, a sectional method was used. The information was obtained from LTK Sdn Bhd, a business in Melaka, Malaysia. This research used a basic random probability sampling method to gather a sample of 100 full-time workers. A multicultural experience questionnaire with a 1-5 Likert scale was utilized. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 for Windows.

Cronbach's alpha and principal component analysis were used to verify the questionnaire's reliability and validity. Except for openness of personality, the correlation analysis indicates that personality has a positive and substantial connection with relationship conflict. Personality neuroticism was shown to have a positive and significant relationship with task conflict, while other aspects of personality were found to have a positive but non-significant association with task conflicts. Similarly, this research discovered that neuroticism and agreeableness are only significant and positively related to process conflict. The implications and recommendations for further study are addressed.

Introduction

You're in charge of a big project team with a wide range of working habits, communication styles, and preferences. You have the impression that your staff is a melting pot of a dozen distinct methods, ranging from night owls and early birds to planners and procrastinators.

On the one hand, you appreciate the many views and new ideas that diversity brings to the table. But what about the other hand? Well, you often find yourself confronted with dynamics that are difficult to manage:

  • One team member prefers to develop an outline before proceeding systematically, while the other prefers to roll up his sleeves and get started straight away.
  • One like continuous contact through email, instant messaging, and meetings, while the other prefers to be left alone to create anything.
  • One person likes bagels, while another prefers doughnuts.

Conclusion

Conscientiousness is the most often expressed personality trait among responders. As a result, it is critical that everyone on the team focuses on meeting deadlines, being well organized, and planning everything before proceeding. Conscientiousness is also linked to interpersonal difficulties. Conscientiousness, on the other hand, is not linked to any other team problems.

Except for openness, all personality traits are substantial and positively linked with relationship problems. Additionally, agreeableness and naturism personality traits are substantial and positively related with task conflict. Process conflict is also linked with agreeableness and neuroticism. This implies that the other personality types are unrelated to the process or task issue.
