Is Trade Union Advantageous For the Employees or The Employers?
ABSTRACT
Trade unions play an important role in protecting workers from any kind of discrimination or harassment in the workplace. Employees must work in a pleasant atmosphere. Many studies have been conducted in this field, however there has been little study in poor nations, particularly Botswana. To address this need, this research will investigate the role of trade unions in resolving labor-related issues, with a focus on working conditions, wages, and ‘fair treatment.' Furthermore, the research will examine how members view their job and non-work experiences, as well as their belief in their trade unions, and if the unions fulfilled their responsibilities in accordance with their expectations. A cross-sectional survey was utilized in the research.

The questionnaire was used to gather the information. The main result showed that economic variables such as changes in government policies are taken into account in the union's activities. Furthermore, the labor unions maintain their long-held beliefs. Thus, working for the interests of its members rather than the community in which it works; otherwise, it will not serve according to the expectations of its members, which may result in a decrease in membership, as has occurred in certain African nations.
INTRODUCTION
A trade union is defined as any "organization of employees" whose main goals include regulating interactions between workers "of one or more categories" and employers or employers' organizations (Trade Union and Labor Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992). It provides a broad definition that encompasses a wide range of groups, each with varying adherence to the basic ideals and philosophy of "trade unionism."
The development of trade union structures started with discussion groups that evolved into professional organizations with the following functions: bargaining for higher salaries, working hours, and working conditions.

The following are the study's limitations:
The study's weakness is that it employed a cross-sectional survey, which has its own set of limitations. During the data collection procedure, no triangulation techniques were used. Because the sample size was drawn from a single hamlet in Botswana, Serowe, the findings cannot be extended to regions that were not included in the research. Finally, a comparative study of trade unions in Botswana is required to get a comprehensive understanding of the function of trade unionism.
