Abstract

In Supply Chain Management (SCM), the exponential growth of Information Technology (IT) and communication technology is playing a critical role in optimising supply chain network flow decisions for achieving organisational competitiveness, improving higher service levels, lowering inventory, supply chain costs, and reducing electronic risks (e-risks). IT in SCM is also needed to enable integration and efficient information exchange within and beyond organisations. With the help of rapid changes in technology and IT applications such as Electronic Data Exchange (EDI), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Bar Code, Electronic Commerce, Decision Support system, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package, and others, organisations are moving towards a virtual supply chain.

Introduction

The information flow in supply chain networks was time consuming and mistake prone in the era of paper-based transactions and communication.
