Retail Merchandising & Shop Display - Significance in Indian Retail Scenario
Abstract
Traditional markets are giving way to new forms such as department stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets, specialised shops, shopping centres, multistory malls, and large complexes that provide shopping, entertainment, and cuisine all under one roof in India's retail industry.
Retailers use a variety of merchandising methods to boost consumer traffic and revenue. Consumers are immediately motivated to purchase a product through retail marketing, which acts as a silent salesperson. The most difficult task for organised retailing is to create an atmosphere that attracts customers and encourages them to spend more time shopping. This study examines the different merchandising techniques used in India's contemporary retail formats.
Introduction
The world's economic centre of gravity is moving eastward, towards Eastern Europe and Asia. The Asian market, which accounts for 40% of the world's population and over 20% of global GDP (Gross Domestic Product), is expanding at an annual pace of 8% to 9%. The retail pie continues to rise in emerging markets like India and China, thanks to rising wages and increased consumer spending. With many companies joining the market, India's retail sector has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast-paced industries. India topped an AT Kearny global retail development ranking of 30 developing nations as the sixth most appealing emerging retail market.
Conclusion
India's retailing is very different from that of Western nations. Kirana shops that have been upgraded are expanding at the same pace as organised merchants. Understanding the psychology of the customer is essential to retail success in today's shifting retailing climate. Consumers in India are still mostly motivated by their families. Shopping, entertainment, and dining out are all activities that may be enjoyed by the whole family. Because these are often collective choices, Indian customers have grown more aware about quality, customer service, and social standing. He or she is willing to pay, at times, exorbitant amounts if their demands are fulfilled. Consumers are a source of competitive advantage for retailers, and knowing them may help them rethink their company and achieve a long-term edge.
