Role of Social Responsibility in Purchasing

Abstract

The goal of this research is to learn more about the factors that influence purchasing social responsibility (PSR). The model established by Carter and Jennings was reproduced and experimentally extended in this research, adding to the nomological validity of the PSR notion. The technique was adapted from Carter and Jennings' prior research. The current research expands on that method's use in an Asian setting. The information was gathered from 197 Thai respondents. Purchasing and supply-chain managers made up the majority of the sample. Respondents were asked to describe how various aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) influence PSR.

Introduction

Since Al Gore's global-warming drama An Inconvenient Truth hit the big screen, businesses like Wal-Mart and General Electric have hopped on the eco-friendly bandwagon, and even Virgin Group CEO Richard Branson has chosen to become green. Asian businesses are also rapidly adopting the global trend of CSR since they have noticed that enhancing consumer views of a company may improve sales revenue and market share. Rather, it's about ensuring that the earnings they make are earned via ethical means.

Conclusion

This study adds to a growing body of research on the spread of PSR in the supply-chain environment. It specifically teaches corporate organisations how to comprehend buying social responsibility. Perhaps a broader knowledge of PSR will entice companies with a social responsibility focus to see their social responsibility choices as a competitive advantage. They should have ample leeway to apply their social responsibility frameworks since PSR is not a meta standard.
