Analysis of Total Quality Management Implementation in an Organization
Analysis of Total Quality Management Implementation in an Organization
Abstract
This article aims to discover TQM techniques in two distinct industries and analyses the differences between them by examining their similarities in terms of implementation in both industries. The approach used was a comprehensive review of the literature on TQM practises in the manufacturing and service industries. There were a total of 30 published research papers (15 on TQM practises in the manufacturing sectors and 15 on TQM practises in the service industries) that focused on TQM concepts and practises utilised by them. There was no significant difference in the level of most TQM practises, and the same set of recognised TQM practises exists and is relevant to both sectors, with a few exceptions that were discovered and reported in this research. The findings may help service managers and quality practitioners who want to adopt TQM. At the conclusion, several management implications and the study's future scope are also discussed.

Introduction
The TQM philosophy and its concepts are very ancient, having been brought into the United States about 1980, mainly in reaction to the serious competitive threat posed by Japanese firms. Because of the dominance of academics from the engineering and operations disciplines, the focus was initially on manufacturing sectors, with little consideration given to service industries.TQM philosophy's introduction in service sectors is a new development that has been used over the last two decades. Saraph proposed the idea of using TQM techniques in service industries, and it was the first research in the service sector to take into account a set of identified TQM variables in both manufacturing and service sectors.

Conclusion
This article effectively provided the groups of TQM practises for manufacturing and service businesses, as well as a group of common TQM practises that apply to both industries. Although the majority of the practises discovered in the two sets are similar, comparing them revealed a few discrepancies. Such discrepancies in research may be frustrating for both academics and practitioners seeking guidance on how to apply the TQM idea in their companies. These discrepancies may be related to the type of operations, firm characteristics, service design, and manufacturing and service industry goods and services. Furthermore, since this study only looked at 15 research papers on TQM procedures in each sector, discrepancies may be reduced if additional studies in the same field are looked at. This may also explain why there are a few discrepancies in the current research.
