Demand Drivers in Lighting Industry in India - MBA Marketing
Introduction
Lighting applications such as residential and commercial lighting as well as retailing and hospitality, as well as roadways and sports lighting have all been transformed by LED technology in just a few short years. LEDs have supplanted conventional light sources such as incandescent bulbs and CFLs as well as fluorescent and metal halide lamps. We've seen a technological revolution that's rendered all previous technologies obsolete. How far will this trend continue to go before it reverses? What can an LED do, and what can't it do? Despite the fact that LEDs will continue to advance in lighting technology, conventional light sources will survive in small niches.

Lights are for people, not for empty spaces, as mentioned above. Unfortunately, users and the lighting industry are so focused on energy savings that they tend to overlook this fact. There is Human Centric Lighting and then there is poor quality lighting – variations in light quality and color consistency like CCT, the use of Full ANSI Boxes to 5 SDCM (standard deviation of color matching, also known as MacAdam ellipses), poor CRI, etc. In all areas, LEDs are retrofitted at a low cost and with poor quality, resulting in energy savings for energy managers and utilities, but at the expense of user-required quality. Due to the rapid pace of technological innovation, this may not last much longer.

Challenges
Poor quality raw materials and finished products are being sold on the market today at low prices, but these products are destroying the market and causing long-term harm to consumers that isn't yet visible.. Manufacturing LED chips, their packaging, driver components, optics, and diffusers locally in India is the biggest challenge facing the industry. Current raw material imports range from 60 to 70%, with final assembly taking place in India. "Make in India" is not the goal here.
Raw material quality, supply consistency, etc. are sometimes difficult to manage because of the reliance on imports. Government policy changes that occur frequently impede the manufacturing plan's implementation and result in setbacks for many companies. Despite its enormous potential, India will require a large amount of capital investment to become a manufacturing hub for the entire LED supply chain Such investments require the government to implement industry-friendly policies and programmers. Only by working together will the 'Make in India' programmed be successful.
