Effectiveness Of The Existing Appraisal System At Indian Airlines
Introduction
Air India is the national flag airline of India. Although air transport in India was established on February 18, 1911, when Henri Piquet flew a Humber biplane from Allahabad to Naini Junction, some 6 miles distant, regular flights in India began on October 15, 1932. On this day, J.R.D Tata, the founder of Air-India and the pioneer of civil aviation in India, took off from Drigh Road Airport in Karachi in a small, light single-engine de Havilland Puss Moth on his first trip to Mumbai via Ahmadabad.
On June 8, 1948, Air-India International launched its international services with a weekly trip from Mumbai to London via Cairo and Geneva, using a Lockheed Constellation aircraft.
The worsening financial situation of India's numerous airlines in the 1950s compelled the government to intervene and nationalise the air transport sector, and two autonomous companies were established on August 1, 1953. Indian Airlines was established by the merging of eight domestic airlines to conduct domestic flights, while Air-India International was formed to run international flights. In 1962, the term "International" was eliminated. The airline has been known as Air-India Limited since March 1, 1994.
