Effects of IT on Inventory Management in Healthcare Organizations

Abstract

The goal of this research was to see how inventory management methods affected organisational performance in Kenyan public health facilities. The particular goals were to determine the impact of inventory loss, inventory investment, inventory turnover, and inventory record accuracy on Kenyatta National Hospital's organisational performance: The research was conducted using a descriptive case study approach. SPSS was used to conduct the statistical analysis. Inventory investment and inventory record accuracy have a favourable impact on organisational performance, whereas inventory shrinkage has a negative impact on Kenyatta National Hospital's organisational performance. As a consequence of this research, the hospital should make sure that losses due to medication inventory shrinking are minimised. This may be accomplished by maintaining correct inventory records. The hospital's inventory investment must be managed by ensuring that the proper quantity of goods is maintained on hand at all times.

Introduction

With the rising cost of healthcare, there is a need to address this issue while ensuring that existing resources are utilised to deliver critical medicines to an ever-growing population. The pharmacy department is one of the largest users of hospital funds and one of the few places where a significant amount of money is spent on purchasing medications and pharmaceuticals. As a result, hospitals must guarantee that the necessary stock is delivered in a timely manner to provide continuous service. This necessitates comprehensive and efficient pharmacy stock inventory management, which includes keeping a tight eye on essential medicines, preventing pilferage, and prioritising drug purchases and delivery.

Conclusion

The research looked at how inventory management affects organisational performance. The purpose was to see whether respondents were aware that inventory management methods would have a significant impact on KNH's performance. The research concluded that performance metrics assist organisations in ensuring that the inventory management team's agreed-upon performance goals help achieve organisational performance, if the performance metrics are fulfilled. Furthermore, organisations considering achieving inventory objectives must evaluate their performance metrics. This includes things like establishing clear inventory objectives that are aligned with business strategy and the strategic plan of the organisation, as well as the performance criteria being agreed upon by the concerned management team.
