Job Satisfaction among Employees of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation

Abstract

The worldwide decline in the oil and natural gas sector has had a major effect on the Malaysian market, possibly putting Malaysia in a negative global spotlight. The incidence of layoffs in oil and natural gas companies has increased significantly, and this scenario may have an impact on employee satisfaction and loyalty in the relevant sector. The purpose of this research is to see whether there is a link between employee happiness and loyalty in the oil and gas industry. A total of 100 workers working in the oil and gas industry were chosen as responders using a basic random sample method. Data was gathered via a questionnaire. The findings revealed a favourable relationship between several aspects of employee satisfaction and employee loyalty. Compensation and benefits appeared as a significant component in the study, whereas career growth was the least relevant factor in determining loyalty.

Introduction

The oil and natural gas sector is often recognised as a highly competitive industry that is now experiencing massive and fast environmental alignment. Lee (2012) said in a recent research that the oil and natural gas industry's development is dependent on the quality of professional engineers and bright workers. A high turnover rate recorded by oil and natural gas sectors across the globe, according to Malaysian Employers Federation (2010), indicates workers' dedication. When compared to other engineering sectors in Malaysia, the oil and natural gas industry is seen as having the most promising prospects for the country's economic development (Abdullah, 2009).

Conclusion

Multiple regression analysis revealed that pay and benefits were the most significant factor influencing work satisfaction and loyalty, while career growth was the least important. Compensation and perks have been shown to have a significant impact on employee loyalty in previous research. Person happiness and performance have a chain effect, according to Linder (1998), since when an employee puts out effort, it leads to performance, which leads to organisational satisfaction and loyalty. On the other hand, he said that pay and benefits may have a good or negative impact, but that the employer must realise that the better the benefits package, the more likely an employee would be happy and loyal to the company.
