Personality and its Effects on Group Performance - MBA HR

Abstract

Group performance is critical in any business since it reflects the overall performance of the organisation. If different people in a company are unable to operate as a team, the organization's performance both financial and operational will never be optimal. Group efforts and teamwork are essential components of any successful organisation; thus, it is critical to ensure that the personalities of all members of the group are compatible in order for group/organizational objectives to be met. There can never be a good group if there are no excellent personalities in it.

The researcher utilized the Ghana National Fire Service (Eastern Regional Office) as a case study to investigate the impact of personality on group performance, as well as potential remedies.

Introduction

Every committed employee of a company wishes to create a sound congenial atmosphere for the organisation. Employee personalities may propel a company to higher heights, above its rivals, while poor personalities can drag the organisation down. Intelligence and emotional quotient, which essentially constitute an employee's personality type, must be balanced in order for the employee to behave successfully and connect to his/her work and other employees in a pleasant manner. However, an employee will be unable to function in a group/team if he or she lacks a positive personality. When this happens, group efforts and performance tend to fail, lowering the overall performance of the company.

However, the purpose of this study was to inform companies about the different personality types that workers in an organisation may possess, as well as to propose methods in which a company may improve performance. This research focuses on various personality problems, personality types, and dangers, as well as their impact on group performance.

Limitation of the Study

The main constraint encountered by the researcher while carrying out this study was the delay in receiving data from the different respondents. Because of their hectic schedules and the nature of their jobs, most respondents were hesitant to fill out surveys. The researcher found it difficult to gather answers from the different respondents, which nearly jeopardised the study's success.
